To mark this special occasion, he is returning to Vancouver's highly anticipated Chutzpah! Festival, the same event where he premiered his first play, the acclaimed The Invisible Life of Joseph Finch, four years ago.

Conversations is an imaginary encounter between the Spanish poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca and his assassin Juan Luis Trescastro, portrayed by Billy Marchanski and Danny Wild.

A Life of Dance and the Dance of Life

The Strange Adventure of Myself

We are entering our fourth week of rehearsals for The Strange Adventure of Myself, which premiere's at Firehall Arts Centre, 280 East Cordova, at October 15-17, 2009 at 7pm.

Rehearsals for The Strange Adventure of Myself  have been ongoing at the Scotiabank Dance Centre since early September. Montreal composer Bertrand Chenier was our guest in Vancouver for two weeks in September, while composing an original score for the piece. It was a pleasure having him in our city, and we look forward to having him back when the show goes up in mid-October.

The Strange Adventure of Myself  is a new a solo work created for dancer Sylvain Senez. Serge explains his inspiration for the piece as follows: “a phrase by Jean Genet describes very well the galaxy where I encouraged Sylvain Senez to immerse himself: You are an artist, alas, you can no longer refuse to confront the awful precipice of your eyes.”

The Strange Adventure of Myself is a study of dance and memories of dance – of a life in dance and the dance of life. It is a performance about the effect on the present of all past generations of dancers throughout the world. “I want to offer my heartfelt thanks to Sylvain to have had the foolishness and the valor to accept this project and to do it with such generosity” says Bennathan.

Advance adult tickets are $26; advance concession (students and seniors) are $22. At the door adult tickets are $28 and concession tickets are $24. To purchase go online to Tickets Tonight or call the Firehall Box Office at 604-689-0926. or call the Firehall Box Office at 604-689-0926.

Manga - The Georgia Straight

With their wide-eyed, button-nosed characters, trippy plot devices, and exclamation-ridden dialogue, Japanese comics aren’t for everyone. Still, the genre—called manga—has been embraced by lowbrow and highbrow artists alike. With Vancouver Opera publicizing its productions in manga form, it comes as no surprise that a local dance company has jumped on the bandwagon.
